Summer? What Summer?

Promoting AyAyAy w/ Elana Jadallah & Designer/Owner, Christina Johnson

I know, I know. I've been bad. I haven't posted in over 2 months (*wince*) & I'm sure that my wonderful boss (as well as you guys) is less than thrilled with me....But you have to forgive me, I've been extremely busy...
I don't believe in making excuses, but I think I should explain to you why I've been MIA for so long. You see, my parents & I made an agreement last spring - if I wanted to live in SLC for the summer, I had to not only attend summer school, but I also had to work. Therefore, I've been attending two summer classes at Westminster (Exploring Science and Society & Algebra), taking an online Westminster class (Writing for the Mass Media), working as an Assistant at Ameriprise Financial, working as a stylist at LOFT, as a promo girl for AyAyAy, and teaching Cycle Fusion classes every other Friday on campus. (Okay, yes, I may have over done it a wee bit...)

Taking summer classes is probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only am I getting ahead in credits, but I have more time to focus on classes that are harder for me. Also, since the Professors are teaching only a few classes, they are more creative with their classes - I've been on two field trips with my Physics class and I am required to Skype with my Comm Professor (my advisor, Kim Zarkin) once a week to go over my online class. So cool!

Although working and taking classes has been sort of overwhelming, I have really enjoyed meeting new people and branching out from my comfort zone. I have also learned more about how to schedule my time in order to get homework done, go to work, and have a social life. And of course, I am completely addicted to teaching my spin classes! I hope you all come to a few in the fall. (Make sure to message me if you have any playlist requests. I always love hearing new ideas!)

But it hasn't been all work & no fun necessarily. No, not at all. At the end of May my cute roomie, Ashley, & I moved into our first "adult" apartment across from Carleson Hall.  I love decorating so it was fun furnishing the place with thrift store finds I refurbished. I also celebrated my 20th birthday with some of my closest girlfriends in June, & in July, spent the 4th with great friends & fireworks by the pool. Throughout the summer I've been filling my free-time with hiking, gym time at HWAC (free for students attending summer school), backyard BBQ's, pool days at the Cottonwood Heights Park & Rec Center, and strolls around the Farmers Market. My Mom also brought my teenage siblings, Alec & Claire, out to visit in June. It was a lot of fun to show them around SLC & Park City! Alec even scheduled a tour with Holly so that he could look around Westminster since he wants to attend the school too.

Yes, I am absolutely exhausted & I do miss my family (especially, my fur-babies!), but I do not regret my decision to stay here one bit. I've learned so much about myself this summer and have had such a great time. It was my first SLC summer, & I know it won't be my last.

I'm headed back to Germany in two weeks for a short visit with my family & I will be returning the night before the Fall semester begins. It will be great to have a relaxing break full of good food and sleep before I dive straight into a 15 credit semester, teaching spin two times a week (mon & wed 7-7:45 am in HWAC), continuing work at Ameriprise, and contributing to The Forum as the Assistant Editor. Wow, it's going to be crazy! But you know what? I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm half-way through my time here at Westminster, & I know it is exactly where I am meant to be.

  1. I go to this lake every summer and I wanted to make a scrapbook for all my friends, and I need some quotes about our summers together. We only see eachother once a year, and thats during the summer. So this summer will be our 10th summer as friends and I really would like some good quotes about how we have grown up together and about our summers. Thanks!
